- Mussel Shoals Beach in Ventura County is a blue and green paradise located north of Los Angeles. This fantastic stretch of Ventura coastline is loved by surfers and includes an active Surf rider chapter focused on recent developments affecting the public space in this beach region. Mussel Shoals beach is located next to the famous Oil Piers site that was owned by Arco Oil until 1998 when the contract expired. Near Mussel Shoals beach are state beaches such as Emma Wood State Beach, a permit camping beach. This breath-taking region enjoys great surfing, RV camping, beach hiking and seashell hunting. Located between the great adventure cities and destinations of Santa Barbara and Ventura with a driving distance of no more than 15 miles each way, Mussel Shoals sits near the border of Santa Barbara County in Ventura County where the tantalizing Channel Islands beckon offshore. One of the most spectacular national sea parks is accessible from either city by charter boats that depart regularly for the islands. Those seeking the experience early natives and explorers may have experienced at the California shore may find this borderline region of Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties one of Southern California's finest locations.
